One of the most photographed sights in Scotland is certainly Eilean Donan Castle. It stands near Dornie on a small island in a fjord-like bay. Conveniently, the buses on the route to the Isle of Skye (from Glasgow via Fort William or from Inverness) stop right next door. I didn’t find the inside of the castle, which was rebuilt in the 20th century, that exciting. But in the evenings and mornings, when the busloads of tourists are not there and the light is warm and soft, walks along the shore are worthwhile.
